My painting process is very physical, almost sculptural. This pursuit of depth in two dimensions is an enticing challenge. I want to make work that invites people to look into it for a very long time. Nearly all of us when we are young question the most basic things and can imagine infinite possibilities. Similarly, I approach my art with inquiry and curiosity to discover the essence of things.

The predominant interest that I explore through my art practice is the history of memory and the ways that impressions are influenced by the passing of time. In my newest series, Can’t Trace Time, each painting is a visual chronicle of a real or imagined moment. As layers of paint, ink, and other materials were added to and subtracted from wood panels through the physical act of rubbing and sanding, degrees of abstraction revealed themselves as measures of time. Meaning was exposed and erased, added and concealed— resurfacing amid “inner-landscapes”, spheres of daily life, and the greater consciousness as form, light, and shadow. Viewed as a body of work, these paintings are the tangible remains of inner-life and its ephemeral, faded memories.
